born1964 in Reading (England);

He studied in Cincinatti (USA) with Zara Nelsova and the La Salle Quartet, at the Menuhin Music Academy in Switzerland with Radu Aldulescu and at the Robert Schumann University in Düsseldorf with Johannes Goritzki. He attended master classes with David Geringas, Boris Pergamenschikow and Pierre Fournier.

From 1985 to 1987 he gave concerts worldwide with the Camerata Lysy Gstaad and Lord Yehudi Menuhin, after which he was a member of the German Chamber Academy in Neuss. Nikolai New has been a member of the Haydn Quartet since 1991 and has been giving concerts regularly since 2002 together with the pianist and ballet accompanist from the Vienna State Opera Igor Zapravdin and Martin Kocsis as a piano trio - this collaboration has resulted in CD and DVD productions.
